End of the Year Meme

I don’t do many of these anymore, but I’ve done this meme for many years. So here goes.

End of Year Survey!

— What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Got married, went to Maui, got pregnant. I think that’s about it, but I would say those are pretty significant!

— Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I never really make any resolutions. Next year, though, I just want to survive this pregnancy and see our baby born healthy!

— Did anyone close to you give birth?
Many people I know gave birth this year (I’m at that age), but no one I’m super close to.

— Did anyone close to you die?

— What countries did you visit?
None. 😦

— What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A baby? Okay, I guess I have a baby right now, but one outside my womb would be great.

— What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 1: day I got married. September 11: day of my last period, which is the day we start counting how old baby is.

— What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting knocked up. We were told, like most couples, it could take up to a year to conceive, but we did it in only a month. I’m rather proud of that.

— What was your biggest failure?
Nothing all that dire. I could definitely have more patience while pregnant.

— Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. I wasn’t sick all that often. Go me!

— What was the best thing you bought?
A PS3 for our first-year anniversary this holiday season. It’s a to the we to the some!

— Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband is fantastic. I wouldn’t have been able to make it through the first trimester without him. He has stepped up to the plate in so many ways, from handling cleaning the house, to feeding the cats 24/7, to bringing me food and water when I’m feeling nauseous. He’s my hero.

— Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one depressed me, per say. But there are certainly people I’d be happy not to hang with again.

— Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage and saving up for medical bills.

— What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting married. Finding out we were pregnant when I secretly already instinctively knew. I’m kind of a broken record here, right?

— What song will always remind you of 2009?
Something from our wedding, perhaps. There are songs that stick out to me from that night.

— Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
b) thinner or fatter?
Totally fatter with baby.
c) richer or poorer?
About the same, but instead of saving for a wedding, we’re now saving for a baby.

— What do you wish you’d done more of?
Traveling. I’m hoping to go to Miami next year.

— What do you wish you’d done less of?
Throwing up.

— How will you be spending Christmas?
In Florence Christmas Eve and Christmas with my family, then the day after Christmas with Dave’s family.

— Did you fall in love in 2009?
I’m totally in love with this baby inside me. I can’t wait to find out if it’s a boy or a girl!

— What was your favorite TV program?
LOST happened this year, right? Glee was something refreshing to see, too.

— Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is such a strong word. But if there are any people I disliked last year, I still dislike them this year. Don’t believe there are any new dislikes to be had.

— What was the best book you read?
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, hands down.

— What was your greatest musical discovery?
This was a year of little music for me. I’m not a big music person to begin with, but there just wasn’t any one artist that I latched onto.

— What did you want and get?
A baby.

— What did you want and not get?
A new house. That’s always my long-standing wish, but it shall have to wait a while!

— What was your favorite film of this year?
Iron Man. Was that this year?

— What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28 a few weeks ago. My mum surprised me by coming in from out of town and spending the day with me. Had lunch with my parents and husband. I had to work all that evening, but the night with my hubby was nice.

— What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting a full time job. It’s kind of a long-term goal. I really don’t want to have to buy private health insurance for the rest of my life.

— How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Maternity shirts can be so cute. I’m glad I have a reason to go a bit bulky.

— What kept you sane?
My husband.

— Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Johnny Depp, as always.

— What political issue stirred you the most?
Health care. Dave and I will be directly affected by this thing.

— Who did you miss?
Friends I don’t see nearly often enough. Peeps from grad school.

— Who was the best new person you met?
Hmm, no new friends!

— Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
If you want something, you have to make an effort to get it.
